A uniquely beautiful song- Koi Nahin Hai Fir bhi awaaz aa rahi hai.........

 

Sharing a song which is so beautiful and nostalgic as I literally heard it a day ago after almost 26 years and could instantly recognize it. I would not even call this song a lesser-known song as its literally unknown song and only those who really have thirst for music and listen to lot of genres will know why songs have magical power as its the melody and words which the heart recognizes across time and space.

This song is actually a beautiful ghazal song with beautiful lyrics sung by famous Indian ghazal singer Talat Aziz, released in 2000. The song can be heard here

The lyrics are very beautiful as they talk of a male lover (supposedly a poet) who is able to feel the true love but not able to translate the feelings but senses the inspiration of the female lover (who is shown as a musician who also sings hence the melodies given by her or sent through telepathically). Interestingly, as the lyrics progress, we are also told that this person also recognizes the deep magnetism, but neither is the union (wasl) occurring nor is the thought of her leaving him....I think its one of the most simple and beautiful lyrics expressing the beauty of love from one person's view....

I should add this song (with lyrics) is very special especially as it shows the actor in the movie (Anil Kapoor) discovering his lost piano (that was sold off to someone) which he played with his mother when young and played a specific melody (the song), and it is through that melody that he plays again to try to revive the memory of his mother who suffered a lot and forgot him (due to dementia state)..but remembered him back that he was her lost son....

A beautiful and poetic song-Ae Dil-e-Nadaan- from an old Hindi movie

 

Sharing a song from an old Hindi movie Razia Sultan (1983). The lyrics of this song were penned by the Urdu poet Jan Nisar Akhtar (who is the father of Javed Akhtar who has penned Bollywood lyrics and is a renowned Urdu poet himself). This song and its poetry are way too deep and resonates with its deep words. The video of the song shows the actress (Hema Malini) who plays the role of Razia Sultan in the movie, and the video mirrors her pathos and emotions with the scenery of a desert..Each line of this song is bursting forth with depth and soulfulness....

A beautiful Sufi kalam- Ishq ka Sajda...

 

Sharing a very soulful Sufi kalam that I recently heard, and its poetry and music were so divine that I had to share it.

Few particular lines of this song are way too deep, especially the following ones. The reference of holy Kaaba (Islam) and Kaashi (a holy place of Hindu God Shiva) together and amidst that talking of the truth of what a soul really encompasses is beautifully expressed...

meri rooh ki asli talaashi bhi tu hai

bhatakta raha main lafzon ke jaal main

magar khamoshi mein mili vo awaaz bhi tu hai

The lyrics of this song actually include a shayari:

which is probably by Allama Iqbal (as per some sources), although other sources show it as anonymous (मिटा दे अपनी हस्ती को अगर कुछ मर्तबा चाहे - शेर)...

A very beautiful Sufi Kalam....Vairagya

 Sharing a Sufi Kalam, which is very recent and was posted by the Rumi Rythm channel. This song and its lyrics were so profound that I had to post about it.

What I found intriguing about this particular song is that although it is a Sufi song, it has themes of Vedic knowledge and Hinduism, moreover, the title "Vairagya" is actually a Sanskrit word that means detached/ without passion / colors...a state of mind which the Hindu religion teaches. The metaphors of the lotus and about the boat in the ocean and to be like the water that just flows without any attachment, are indeed what are the knowledge given in Hindu scriptures (Gita)...

Each line is so beautiful that again it felt like the lyricist/poet just wrote what one needs to hear...Somehow what I find amusing is that one of an earlier Sufi song (Chiraag bujhaye kaise) that I posted talked of the dilemma of the person how to go back to the world..and somehow, this song gives the answer to that question...

It talks of the detached attachment...and to just flow..and while in the worlds' affairs, keep the Beloved in the heart..

The lines I found too deep are 

"haath kaam main ho, aur dil yaar main

yehi tareeqa hai , is bazaar main."

*One interesting thing I noticed was the YouTube video has a single scene ( I posted the snap below) of a man almost in prayer or remembering or in introspection...in a farm with so many sheep around.For some reason it reminded me of Jesus Christ (as the man even bears resemblance somewhat) as the one thinking of his 1 lost sheep, while the remaining 99 were near to him in the group (I think even the number of sheep shown in the photo are perhaps totaling to that number :))

A beautiful song on Khuda- A forgotten melody-1

 

Sharing a song which I only recently came across, that comes from a very old Hindi movie (titled: Abdullah, released in 1980). The song can be heard here:

The song is way too divine. First, due to the heavy use of the instrument rabab which is the soul of this song. Next, its lyrics (see below) are actually very sublime because they talk of the person (the actor here) who is beseeching and praying to God, but who starts with a total lack of hope. I found it interesting that he says" har dua meri kisi deewar se takra gayi, be-asar hokar meri faryaad wapas aa gayi" hinting his prayers remained unanswered/ returned..and he then reasons that his hopelessness and unanswered prayers are because perhaps, the heaven is indeed too far from the earth...

As song progresses, there is hope that replaces the earlier lack of hope. This is because he says about the loss of his son (in the movie) who is considered the light/ lamp/ chiraag of one's life...but then he accepts that God is the Light of the whole world whose noor/ light is so majestic and limitless that the light is still burning and lighting and he accepts the will of God.

Overall, in the song, the person is accepting of God's will and the way the poetry/lyrics go is very beautiful in my view.

Sang-e-Saboor: A deeply divine Persian Song

 

Sharing a beautiful Persian song (by Mohsen Chavoshi), that I listened to recently after almost a gap of 15 years..I was able to recognize the song by its specific music that is primarily played on the santoor...and the song felt so nostalgic and also apt at this time...The lyrics of the song are very beautiful and talk of loneliness from the perspective of a male. 

An interesting thing about this song is that sang-e-saboor actually translates to stone of patience. (the English translation shows it as a shoulder to cry on which is not the exact translation). However, the stone of patience was a book (and movie by the same name), and there is a legend that there used to be a stone that could listen to a person's troubles and sorrows (similar to a shoulder to cry on but metaphorically) and would keep on absorbing them all like a sponge until one fine day (unbeknownst to all) it would burst, almost signaling that it could take no more..For some reason this also resonated with the current turmoil which the country of Iran is in, almost like the sang-e-saboor bursting....

           Anyhow, the beauty of this song is the specific rhythms of santoor in it which make it very soulful. Interestingly, I happened to listen to it in piano version and was so mesmerized by the piano version (a cover by another artist) as it was able to recapitulate some of the complex santoor sounds used in the original song.

This piano version is far ahead of its time and stands out amidst several piano compositions I have heard..In my view, this song is way too close to my heart, and I will always know its melody no matter what time..its almost an immortal song....

Hum ishq-e-haqiqi chhod ab dunya main aye kaise- a divine Sufi song

 

A few days ago, I came across another Sufi song (under the channel Rumi Rhythm), and as the lyrics and music reached my ears, it almost felt like a catharsis, as if there was a language my heart always spoke which nobody understood but finally, I was hearing the translation of that via a song. The source of the lyrics of this Sufi poetry is not specified, although it's ascribed to "Sufi Samaa", perhaps a group of Sufi musicians. 

This song reverberates the pathos of those chosen souls who are on the path of ishq-e-haqiqi (love of God) and when that is awakened, it becomes a challenge or a continuous battle for the one as the soul is still imprisoned in the flesh (meaning the person is alive and breathing in the dunya) and so that emotion is very aptly expressed in these words. 

In my view, this is one of the most beautiful poetries I have come across....

Raah-e-haq: means the path of truth

zaad-e-bemisaal: (zaad means rizq or provisions, and bemisaal means unparalleled, so it means unparalleled or matchless provisions)

sharab-e-vahdat: the wine of divine unity (vahdat means unity with divine)
