A beautiful Sufi kalam- Ishq ka Sajda...

Sharing a very soulful Sufi kalam that I recently heard, and its poetry and music were so divine that I had to share it.

the song can be heard here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvHHHWaVd_g

the lyrics of this song are not available online, hence I have heard and typed them here.

“zar jhukane ki rasm to duniya nibhati hai

maine dil jhuka diya jahan teri yaad aati hai

patharon main dhoondte hain log aks khuda ka

mujhe to mere aaine main soorat teri nazar aati hai

yeh ishq nahi ye ibaadat hai meri

har saans main ab to bas aadat hai teri

Kaaba bhi tu hai aur kashi bhi tu hai

meri rooh ki asli talaashi bhi tu hai

bhatakta raha main lafzon ke jaal main

magar khamoshi mein mili vo awaaz bhi tu hai

na main alag hoon, na tu juda hai mujse

ye kaisa rishta hai jo juda hai tujse

mita de apni hasti ko agar kuch martaba chahiye

ki dana khaak main milkar gul e gulzaar hota hai

main nahi.. bas tu hi tu hai..

yehi sach hai aur yehi guftagoo hai

saqi ne jo di hai vo nazar kaam kar gai

meri veeraan duniya ko... vo shaam kar gayi...

bas tu hi tu

sajdah..

sajdah.”

Few particular lines of this song are way too deep, especially the following ones. The reference of holy Kaaba (Islam) and Kaashi (a holy place of Hindu God Shiva) together and amidst that talking of the truth of what a soul really encompasses is beautifully expressed...

"Kaaba bhi tu hai aur kashi bhi tu hai

meri rooh ki asli talaashi bhi tu hai

bhatakta raha main lafzon ke jaal main

magar khamoshi mein mili vo awaaz bhi tu hai

na main alag hoon, na tu juda hai mujse

ye kaisa rishta hai jo juda hai tujse"

The lyrics of this song actually include a shayari:

"मिटा दे अपनी हस्ती को अगर कुछ मर्तबा चाहे

कि दाना ख़ाक में मिल कर गुल--गुलज़ार होता है"

which is probably by Allama Iqbal (as per some sources), although other sources show it as anonymous (मिटा दे अपनी हस्ती को अगर कुछ मर्तबा चाहे - शेर)...

A very beautiful Sufi Kalam....Vairagya

Sharing a Sufi Kalam, which is very recent and was posted by the Rumi Rythm channel. This song and its lyrics were so profound that I had to post about it.

First, the song can be heard here: Vairagya | ویرَگ | Heart Touching Sufi Kalam – Ishq ka Sajda

What I found intriguing about this particular song is that although it is a Sufi song, it has themes of Vedic knowledge and Hinduism, moreover, the title "Vairagya" is actually a Sanskrit word that means detached/ without passion / colors...a state of mind which the Hindu religion teaches. The metaphors of the lotus and about the boat in the ocean and to be like the water that just flows without any attachment, are indeed what are the knowledge given in Hindu scriptures (Gita)...

Each line is so beautiful that again it felt like the lyricist/poet just wrote what one needs to hear...Somehow what I find amusing is that one of an earlier Sufi song (Chiraag bujhaye kaise) that I posted talked of the dilemma of the person how to go back to the world..and somehow, this song gives the answer to that question...

It talks of the detached attachment...and to just flow..and while in the worlds' affairs, keep the Beloved in the heart..

The lines I found too deep are

"haath kaam main ho, aur dil yaar main

yehi tareeqa hai , is bazaar main."

*One interesting thing I noticed was the YouTube video has a single scene ( I posted the snap below) of a man almost in prayer or remembering or in introspection...in a farm with so many sheep around. For some reason it reminded me of Jesus Christ (as the man even bears resemblance somewhat) as the one thinking of his 1 lost sheep, while the remaining 99 were near to him in the group (I think even the number of sheep shown in the photo are perhaps totaling to that number :))

                                                  Scene from the song

The soulful lyrics of this song are not available online; hence I have typed them here:

"keechad main khilta hai jaise kamal ka phool

waise hi reh tu, mat kar dunya qubool

rehna hai yehi magar dil kahin aur ho

bheed main bhi badi khamoshi ka shor ho...

paani main kashti ho

kashti main paani na ho

dunya main hasti ho

hasti main dunya na ho

yeh vairagya nahin

ki jungle bhaag jaaye

vairagya vo hai ki

ghar main hi jaag jaaye

haath kaam main ho

aur dil yaar main

yehi tareeqa hai

is bazaar main.

na kisi se nafrat na kisi se moh

bas behta ja, jaise nadi ka pravaah

saqi ne sikhaya rang main berang hona

sabke saath hokar bhi bas apne sang hona

udta parinda hoon,

zameen par na paanv hain...

teri panaah hi..

ab meri chaanv hai...."

Hum ishq-e-haqiqi chhod ab dunya main aye kaise- a divine Sufi song

A few days ago, I came across another Sufi song (under the channel Rumi Rhythm), and as the lyrics and music reached my ears, it almost felt like a catharsis, as if there was a language my heart always spoke which nobody understood but finally, I was hearing the translation of that via a song. The source of the lyrics of this Sufi poetry is not specified, although it's ascribed to "Sufi Samaa", perhaps a group of Sufi musicians.

This song reverberates the pathos of those chosen souls who are on the path of ishq-e-haqiqi (love of God) and when that is awakened, it becomes a challenge or a continuous battle for the one as the soul is still imprisoned in the flesh (meaning the person is alive and breathing in the dunya) and so that emotion is very aptly expressed in these words.

In my view, this is one of the most beautiful poetries I have come across....

The song can be heard here:

Chiragh Bujhayein Kaise | چراغ بجھائیں کیسے؟ | Heart Touching Sufi Kalam – Ishq ka Sajda

The lyrics are:

Kadam badh gaya hai jo ishq me

Vo peeche hat nahi sakta,

Manzil fanaa hai jiski,

Vo bhatak nahi sakta

Chiraag jalaye khud hain,

To chiraag bujhaye kaise?

Hum ishq-e-haqiqi chhod

Ab dunya main aye kaise?

Pii hai sharab-e-vahdat us saqi ki nigaahon se

Is nashe se baahar ab hosh me aye kaise?

Us parda-nasheen ne khud parda hataya hai

Muqaam paakar ye, parda-e-dhokha giraye kaise?

Ye jism fanaa hai

Us zaad-e-bemisaal me, is may ke jhoothe ghar me

Ab laut ke aye kaise?

Kadam jo badh chuke hain, seher-su-e-manzil ko

To raah-e-haq se use hataye kaise?

Chiraag jalaye khud hain to

Chiraag bujhaye kaise?..”

Here are some translations of the key words in this Urdu poetry:

Raah-e-haq: means the path of truth

zaad-e-bemisaal: (zaad means rizq or provisions, and bemisaal means unparalleled, so it means unparalleled or matchless provisions)

sharab-e-vahdat: the wine of divine unity (vahdat means unity with divine)

The Moth and the Flame

I thought of sharing an interesting theme I noted in few songs. The beautiful song (Tose Naina laage) has deeply spiritual lyrics where the specific lines (see below) on the "shama" and the "parwaana", which are the flame and moth, respectively, are too deep and literally define the whole essence of life. It talks of divine love and the test of love for both the moth and the flame...

Tose Naina Lage | तोसे नैना लागे | Anwar(2007) | Siddharth Koirala | Nauheed Cyrusi | Superhit Song

"Mohabbat ki hai daastan zindagi
Mohabbat na ho to kaha zindagi
Mohabbat to ek jaaveda zindagi hai
Tose naina laage

Shamaa ko pighalne ka armaan kyun hai
Patange ko jalne ka armaan kyun hai
isi shauk ka imtehaan zindagi hai..
"

Now, interestingly, there is another old Hindi song (Pyar Deewana Hota Hai 4K Song : Kishore Kumar Classics | Rajesh Khanna | Hindi Romantic-Kati Patang) with lyrics below that also dwells on the same idea somewhat and talks of how the moth is so consumed with love that it no longer cares about joy or sorrow but just to surrender to the light..

"Shamaa kahe parwaane se pare chalaa jaa
Meri tarah jal jaayega yaha nahi aa,
Wo nahin sunataa usko
Jal jaanaa hota hai
Har khushi se, har gham se,
begana hota hai
Pyaar deewana hota hai,
Mastana hota hai"

I also stumbled upon a Sufi tale of the moth and the fly (listen to the story here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAJB-2dS7xy/?igsh=cHV3c3ljM3o4ZWc3) and was indeed in awe of it. Indeed, the one who is in search of light (out of true love) does not care about anything else but just the search and the surrender and ultimately becomes one with the flame....

Classical Crossover Song-One- Sami

Sharing a deeply beautiful song called "One" by Sami Yusuf (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcSnZ-RuwyI).

This song is a classical piece and a crossover that is especially captivating since it begins with chanting that is similar to Gregorian or Christian chants before the whole music unfolds. This is characteristic of the famous singer Sami Yusuf, whose all songs I adore and who I find is a beautiful soul blessed by God. The phrase "The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me; my eye and God’s eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love" by Meister Eckhart (a Catholic priest, philosopher, and mystic), appears in this powerful Sufi song, which also contains profound poetry about the destruction of the ego.

In the music video, two points in the music journey are too beautiful:

1. The change of rhythm at 4:06 with the use of the instrument oud followed by flute, santoor, darbuka, and daf.

2. The change of rhythm at 9:43 with the powerful sounds of daf played by the skilled musician.
